Goodbye Ocean Light II

It is with very heavy hearts that we share the news that our beloved ship, Ocean Light II, was lost in a dry-dock fire on November 6, 2020. The shed that the Ocean Light II was in caught fire due to a faulty boatyard diesel furnace. We initially hoped that she could be repaired and were hoping and praying that we would sail her again, but late last week after deeper inspection by surveyors it was determined that she is irreparable. The hull sustained significant damage to the port side but worst of all was the burned wood, melted plastic and smoke damage to the interior. Even with a complete new interior the toxic smoke smell is apparently impossible to get rid of.

For the past 24 years, the Ocean Light II has been part of our family, she grew with us, we grew with her, she changed us and provided us with amazing opportunities. She kept us safe and comfortable and surrounded by friends and allowed us a life of adventure. She took us to beautiful places on our coast and allowed us intimate experiences with wildlife. She was always warm and dry and felt like home, because she was.

Tom and I bought the Ocean Light II in 1997 and raised our daughter, Sarah on board.  They are both feeling the loss deeply.

Chris and I know her intimately and have put our heart and soul into upgrading her each and every year. The enormity of the loss is overwhelming. Lots of tears and disbelief, a part of us is gone. We no longer have our beautiful, sleek, Ocean Light II but we have 24 years of incredible memories that will live on.

And we’re not done yet…..

Our passion for what we do has not diminished so we’re already looking for another vessel to continue our adventures on the coast. We have all the permits we need, the expertise, the desire and the drive to make it happen so as soon as we can, we’ll be back out on the coast.

For those of you who have deposits with us for the 2021 season, we will reach out to you individually with options. Please just give us some time. There are many things to do right now but, as always, you won’t be forgotten. We fully intend to offer trips on a first class boat in the near future.
